## How the Packaging Box Size Calculator works

Enter your product's length, width and height in cm, how many units go in one box, and the padding you want on each side. The tool tries different ways of arranging the units in rows, columns and layers, then picks the arrangement that gives the smallest box, adding your padding to every side. It also reports box volume in litres, the volumetric (dimensional) weight at the 5000 divisor most Indian couriers use, and how efficiently the box is filled.

### Worked example

A product of 20 x 15 x 10 cm packed 4 per box with 2 cm padding per side returns a recommended box around 44 x 34 x 14 cm, roughly 20.9 L, with a volumetric weight near 4.19 kg at the 5000 divisor, so you know to compare that against actual weight before shipping.

## Frequently asked questions

Why does box size affect my courier bill?

Couriers like Delhivery, Bluedart and Xpressbees charge on whichever is higher between actual weight and volumetric weight (L x W x H in cm / 5000), so an oversized box with empty space inflates your freight cost.

How much padding should I keep?

For unbreakable items 2 cm per side is usually enough; for fragile goods like glassware or electronics keep 3-5 cm per side for bubble wrap or foam so the product does not touch the box wall.

Should I always pack more units per box?

Larger multi-unit boxes lower per-unit packing and freight only if the box stays reasonably full; a big half-empty box raises volumetric weight, so balance quantity against fill efficiency.

Does this replace weighing my parcel?

No. Use it to choose a box and estimate volumetric weight, but always weigh the packed parcel, because couriers bill on the higher of actual and volumetric weight.
